Know what to plant, when to plant it, and watch your garden grow
Select your country and climate zone below to get a personalised planting guide. Browse what to plant each month, check companion planting, plan your garden bed layout, and track your harvests.
Select a plant below to see what grows well beside it and what to keep apart. Companion planting can improve growth, deter pests, and make better use of space.
Plan your garden bed. Select a plant from the palette, then tap squares on the grid to place them. Tap a planted square to remove it. Each square is roughly 30 cm Γ 30 cm (1 ft Γ 1 ft).
Record what you pick. It is satisfying to see your harvests add up over the season.
π± Gardening Tips for Seniors
- Start small: A few raised beds or pots are easier to manage than a large plot. You can always expand next season.
- Raised beds save your back: Beds raised 40-60 cm reduce bending. Table-height planters eliminate it entirely.
- Water in the morning: Early watering reduces evaporation and helps prevent fungal disease. Drip irrigation saves effort.
- Mulch everything: A 5-10 cm layer of mulch reduces watering, suppresses weeds, and feeds the soil as it breaks down.
- Grow what you eat: There is no point growing something you will not use. Start with your favourite vegetables and herbs.
- Companion planting works: Basil near tomatoes, marigolds near most vegetables, and nasturtiums to trap aphids. Nature does the pest control.
- Succession planting: Instead of planting all your lettuce at once, sow a small amount every 2-3 weeks for a continuous supply.
- Keep a garden journal: What worked, what did not, when you planted, when you harvested. Your own records are more valuable than any guide.
